Everything is going to be ok
- Los Angeles, USA
Some people get creative with their "Homeless please give me money" signs, and there's a hell of a lot of them in America. I just wanted to spread a positive message without begging for money; and I didn't want to spread the word of God (also a big thing in America). My friend Rhys made a sign that reads "Everything is going to be ok" so I used this on the streets of LA.
I sat down under a street light next to a black saxophone player in Downtown LA and did some sketching with the sign hanging on my knees while I waited for a friend. There was a lot of foot traffic because of the Artwalk that was on that night. I got a lot of smiles and a few people stopped to chat and a couple (including a homeless man) even sat down next to me for a look at my sketches. One man insisted on giving me $10 even though I told him I wasn't doing it for money. He went on to tell me how he had just lost $2,000 at the tracks and my sign had helped put it into perspective for him.
For one hour's work I unexpectedly earned $10, made some friends and made some people smile.
